Okapi is a free Chrome extension for keeping the important parts of the web. Select text, click Save, and it's filed in your own private notebook.

What it does

One-click saving

Select text on any page and click Save snippet. Lists, headings and code keep their formatting.

Highlights that stay

Saved text shows highlighted when you return to the page, and you can jump straight to it from your library.

A notebook for the web

Each website gets its own notebook. Search, tag, favourite and sort, with ten colour themes to choose from.

Private AI summaries

Turn a page or your highlights into key points using Chrome's built-in AI, which runs on your device.

Your own notes too

Type or paste a note by hand, for places where selecting text isn't possible, like Google Docs.

Export anywhere

Take your notes out as PDF, Word, plain text or JSON whenever you like.

Privacy first

Okapi has no servers and no accounts. Your highlights are stored in your browser and never leave your computer, and that includes AI summaries. Read the full privacy policy.

About Okapi

We read a lot online: articles, docs, AI chats, research. The good parts get lost in open tabs and bookmarks we never open again. Okapi lets you keep just the lines that matter and find them again later.

Okapi is an independent project, built by one developer who wanted a calmer way to keep what they read.

Okapi is free. If it helps you, you can support its development.
